A Parisian Cabaret, Reimagined: Wave® Ceiling by Paper Design® 26 October 2026

A bold red sculptural ceiling transforms a restaurant concert hall in the Vologda region of Russia into a theatrical interior inspired by the glamour of Parisian cabaret.

Some interiors are designed to be admired. Others are designed to make you feel something the moment you enter.

This project by designer Irina Larionova belongs to the latter. Rich burgundy and red tones, sumptuous velvet textures, atmospheric lighting and vintage-inspired details set the scene for an intimate, theatrical experience. At its heart is a striking ceiling installation by Paper Design®: Wave® Ceiling, spanning 25.36 m².

Inspired by the flowing silhouette of a cabaret dancer’s skirt, the ceiling brings movement, sensuality and a distinctive sculptural presence to the room. It does more than complete the interior — it helps define its entire character.

Colour That Becomes Part of the Design

In this project, colour is central to the concept. The deep red of the Wave® Ceiling echoes the walls, textiles and furnishings, bringing the entire interior together in one cohesive visual composition.

Paper Design® ceiling systems can be customised in colours from the RAL and NCS palettes, as well as the exclusive Deco Art palette. This gives architects and designers the freedom to work with colour as an integral part of the design — whether the ceiling is intended to blend seamlessly into the interior or become its defining visual statement.

Here, the saturated red and sculptural profile of the lamellas reinforce the cabaret-inspired aesthetic, adding depth, rhythm and movement to the space.

From Artistic Vision to Engineering Precision

Behind the fluid appearance of Wave® Ceiling lies a precisely engineered structure.

The installation uses Drop Paper®, a fire-retardant nonwoven material manufactured in France, with a density of 60 g/m² and a European reaction-to-fire classification of B-s1,d0, in accordance with EN 13501-1:2018.

With a diameter of 6,000 mm, the composition covers 25.36 m² and incorporates more than 347 linear metres of lamellas.

The sculptural effect is created by varying the lamella heights in a carefully planned sequence: 600, 700, 800 and 900 mm, reaching 1,000 mm at the centre. Together, the individual elements form a continuous relief that changes with the viewer’s perspective.

Under artificial lighting, the flowing contours become even more pronounced, creating a captivating interplay of light and shadow.

There is also a striking meeting of influences: a French material finds its place in an interior inspired by the visual language of early twentieth-century Paris. Here, material and concept come together in a single, expressive composition.

When Material Becomes Atmosphere

This project reveals the versatility of Wave® Ceiling as a design tool. Form, colour, rhythm and light work together to shape the experience of the space.

The slender lamellas create a large-scale sculptural feature while retaining the visual lightness characteristic of the material. Custom colouring allows the system to integrate into a wide range of interior palettes — from understated neutrals to bold, theatrical schemes.

The result is more than a ceiling. It is an integral part of the room’s scenography: a flowing red form that unifies the interior and captures the spirit of Parisian cabaret.

Paper Design® thanks the client and the entire project team for their trust and collaboration in bringing this concept to life.
